Woody is curiously coy about the subject of weed.
That makes sense because someone that has publicly committed to quitting smoking weed (& failed) will usually avoid the topic. Not wanting to admit you failed is common & being a public figure only adds to the pressure.
9:20 minutes in, Woody is distracted…
By his own seat.
I’m serious. During the entire interview, the object he is sitting on (a chair) seems uncomfortable. But at this point, he is completely absorbed as to the location of the armrest. Stoner move? No doubt…
It also gives Stephen Colbert a chance to humorously repeat the question,
“So you’re not smoking weed anymore!?”
Which backs Woody into a weird conversational corner.
He could shrug off the question as the joke that it was. But there’s a problem…
…the joke was revealing the truth. So Woody feels compelled to answer the question. As he clearly arrived unprepared for the whole weed discussion, he gives up & says,
“you don’t have to smoke a brownie… dude”
Case Closed
That wasn’t a joke but something he had said to himself & possibly close friends before – almost as a way of bargaining with the whole “quitting weed” topic. Coming up with loopholes in your own quitting strategy is common with people quitting weed & this one was obvious.
Loophole:
If I eat weed I can honestly say I don’t smoke it anymore.
Nice one, dude.
You wanted to quit weed but you failed & now you justify it to yourself, all your fans & even directly in interviews by saying “I don’t smoke weed anymore” – without actually lying.
Except to yourself. The one person that should care. Nobody else cares, same goes for anyone reading this that is currently quitting weed – or anything else.
If you really want to quit, do it for yourself, not for the rest of the world.
