I smoked weed myself, for over a decade.
At 14 I was smoking daily,and my habit continued until 27.
That’s 13 years of being HIGH – it’s a very long time.
The sad part is…
For the last 4 years of that, I was hopelessly trying to quit
I would attempt to quit weed, over and over again.
- Sometimes I would tell other people
- Sometimes I would not tell others…
But I would always fail.
And I don’t even know how many times I tried
Maybe over 50. I can’t remember (I wonder why?)
The Weirdest Thing About Quitting
Back then, people around me told me ‘weed wasn’t addictive’
While for ‘some weird reason’ I had a LOT of trouble kicking the habit
Think about alcohol for a second:
Most people can drink socially – take it or leave it can’t they?
But then you also have your alcoholics.
They drink way too much – all the time – and it ruins many lives… (not just their life but the lives of many people around them)
Well… Some of us are like the ‘alcoholics’ of weed
For a few reasons:
- These days, weed us a much harder drug
- Most people completely miss using detox
- Weed causes physical withdrawals, that it also relieves

When I was trying to quit, I went to N.A meetings quite a few times.
Here’s what happens: It runs for about 60-90 minutes, and the people attending are from any random drug addiction
The first half is dreadful, with each person taking turns in reading out loud the same booklet together, every week. It is all pretty religious too, with their 12 steps to change.
The 3rd step is this:
“We made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood him.”
That just doesn’t work for me, because I wanted to be in control
And I’m not religious, so I couldn’t relate to the Christian stuff
Having said that…
I did enjoy the second half of the meetings
Because in the second half, everyone tells their own stories about their own struggle
That was pretty interesting, and I could relate to those stories
But I had one other pretty major problem with N.A
For me, and most other people – N.A wasn’t getting results.
I didn’t like having to hear things like this:
“This is my 12th year of N.A”
My jaw would drop.
I’m not hanging out here for 12 YEARS!
